[Progic] How to Use an External News Feed (RSS) with Editorial

Step-by-step guide to integrating external news portals through RSS Feed in Progic Manager

Most websites have a small icon, usually orange, often accompanied by terms such as “RSS”, “XML”, or “Atom”, similar to those shown below. These icons are actually a universal symbol indicating that RSS feeds can be used on that website.

Thanks to this feature, websites and blogs can distribute new content quickly and accurately. For users, the advantage is being notified of every update from their favorite websites.

Manager allows the use of these RSS links to display external news from these websites in system media and frames.

It is important to remember that unauthorized use may cause issues for the digital signage operator. We are not responsible for feed content.

We also recommend testing the RSS feed before publishing the media. This is because the RSS format is flexible and may not follow Manager standards. In general, issues may occur and the RSS feed may remain in the Error, Warning, or Stopped status.

To register an external news feed (RSS), follow the steps below:

1st – Click +Add Editorial → RSS Feed

2nd – Fill in the RSS information. The RSS Link is the link obtained from the news website you want to use.

Manager will retrieve information through this link, so it is very important that the link in this field is correct and verified.

The required fields are:

  1. Name: RSS name.
  2. RSS Link: RSS feed link.
  3. Client: Allows the RSS feed to be associated with a client.
  4. Update Interval (min): Time in minutes between checks for RSS feed updates.
  5. Validity Period: The period during which this RSS feed will remain valid. After this time, the RSS feed will no longer be updated. To keep the validity period unlimited, select the “Unlimited” option.

          3rd – After completing the information, click Save.

          4th – If everything works correctly, after a few minutes the registered RSS feed should display the status “Updated”.

          5th – You can also view RSS news items by selecting the RSS feed and clicking Edit Editorial.

          6th – The news items should be displayed and automatically updated over time.

          • Configure RSS: Opens the RSS registration screen, where you can edit the RSS feed being displayed.
          • Refresh: Updates the RSS content list.
          • Back: Returns to the data source screen.

                    The content table displays the latest RSS publications, showing the following information:

                    • Title: Title of the RSS publication.
                    • Image: Displays the RSS publication image.
                    • Description: Displays the RSS publication text.
                    • Source: Displays the source of the RSS publication.
                    • Publication Date: Displays the RSS publication date.

                              NOTE: None of the fields in the content table are mandatory. Their availability depends on whether the information exists in the RSS content publication.

                              7th – On the Media or Ready-Made Frames screen (inside Creative), select a media item and then click Choose a data source.

                              8th – Select the RSS feed that was created.

                              9th – Click OK and save the media item or frame.
