How to Stream Live Content Using OBS Studio

OBS Studio is a free broadcasting software that can be used to send live video and audio streams to Progic through the RTMP protocol. By connecting OBS Studio to a live stream created in Progic, you can broadcast presentations, cameras, videos, screen captures, events, and other content directly to your corporate displays.

This article explains how to configure OBS Studio and connect it to Progic's streaming server.

⚠️ Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • OBS Studio installed on your computer.
  • Access to the Progic platform.
  • Administrator permissions, or equivalent access, to manage live streams.
  • At least one Progic Player configured and connected.
  • A stable internet connection, preferably using an Ethernet cable.

OBS Studio will be used as an intermediary tool to send video and audio signals to the Progic streaming server.

🔧 Step 1: Create a Live Stream in Progic

  • Access the Progic platform.
  • Go to Settings > Live Streams.
  • Click Add.
  • Fill in the required information:
    • Stream title
    • Playback platform: select Progic Server
  • Copy the following information displayed on the screen:
    • Server URL (RTMP)
    • Stream Key

⚙️ Step 2: Configure OBS Studio

After creating the stream in Progic, configure OBS Studio to send the signal to the RTMP server.

  • Open OBS Studio.
  • Click Settings.
  • Open the Stream tab.
  • Under Service, select Custom...
  • Fill in the following fields:
    • Server: paste the RTMP URL provided by Progic.
    • Stream Key: paste the stream key provided by Progic.
  • Click OK to save the settings.

🎥 Step 3: Add Video and Audio Sources

In OBS Studio, define the content that will be broadcast.

  1. In the Sources section, click +.
  2. Select the type of source you want to add, such as:
    • Display Capture
    • Window Capture
    • Video Capture Device (camera)
    • Image or Video
    • Audio Input Source, when needed
  3. Adjust the size and position of the elements on the canvas.
  4. Arrange the content according to the desired broadcast layout.

✅ You can combine multiple sources, such as a camera and a presentation, in the same stream.

▶️ Step 4: Start the Broadcast

Once OBS Studio is configured and your sources are ready, you can begin streaming.

  1. In OBS Studio, click Start Streaming.
  2. In Progic Manager, select and start the live stream on the desired players according to your platform configuration.

OBS Studio will send the signal to Progic using RTMP. The content will only be displayed after the live stream is started in Progic Manager.

  • OBS Studio will send video and audio to Progic through RTMP.
  • The live stream will be available for use in Progic Manager.
  • Once started on compatible players, the content will be displayed according to the configuration defined in the platform.

  • Using different scenes in OBS Studio to switch between content types, such as camera feeds, presentations, and screen sharing.
  • Monitoring OBS Studio's performance during the broadcast, especially CPU usage and connection stability.
